How to Volunteer

Klein Fire Department is a combination fire department, consisting of volunteers and paid fire fighters. We are a growing department with goals, top performers, and a commitment to training.  We need members willing to commit to us by showing dedication and strong performance prior to joining.

We enjoy serving our citizens by responding to calls, training for perfection and socializing around the fire station.  However, this is not a social club. We do have a great family environment here at KFD but ultimately our focus is serving the citizens. When duty calls, our citizens need us. Emergencies and people in need do not recognize you as a volunteer or career firefighter. They see you as a trained FIREFIGHTER.  If you are interested in a hobby or a social club, this may not be the best choice for you. We encourage you to think about the time and commitment before applying.  If you are ok with that, say no more!  APPLY!  If you are unsure, that’s ok, too.  Take all the time you need before submitting your application.

We stay organized by requiring all members to adhere to rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and our Chain of Command. Strong, consistent, and reliable performance comes with training. We need members willing to consistently attend training events. Firefighting requires complete dedication to saving lives and protecting property.

Members show their commitment by attending meetings and training sessions, upholding our department values, being available for training, participating in department activities and most importantly responding to all emergency calls when the alarm rings.

We require attendance at our recruit class. The only cost to you, is your time and willingness to learn. Classes are Thursday evenings and Saturdays. The class is 20 weeks during which you will participate in Live Fire exercises, hands-on skills training, and physical fitness training. Upon successful completion of the recruit class, you will have completed all State Fire Fighter’s and Fire Marshall’s Association objectives for Firefighter I and II. You will be considered a probationary fire fighter.  If you are willing to do all the above, welcome! If you feel you cannot, no problem, do not submit the application. If you have your TCFP Certification or SFFMA Certification, please submit with your application.  The Training Chief will review your credentials and determine if you are exempt from attending the recruit class.

We have recruit classes that start twice a year. Your application will remain on file, and we will contact you regarding our upcoming recruiting event.  We want to meet you, answer your questions, and give you a realistic preview of life in the fire service.
